Tom Wheeler was confirmed as the next chairman of the Federal Communications Commission after being unanimously approved by the Senate yesterday. Wheeler, nominated by President Obama in April, is a venture capitalist and former head of the National Cable Television Association and Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association. The vote was initially delayed by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)  over concerns about political disclosure rules, but Wheeler assured him such things were not a priority for him. Michael O’Rielly was also confirmed to the FCC, taking the place of former Commissioner Robert McDowell.
