The United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) announced plans to open a new permanent Silicon Valley office in San Jose City Hall. The USPTO also plans to hire new Patent Trial and Appeal Board judges as well as new patent examiners. The hope is that this will cut down on the patent application backlog. San Jose makes sense as the new satellite office considering famous patent cases like Apple v. Samsung have been litigated here and more patents originate from San Jose than anywhere else in the U.S.
